May Mixer Recap
On Wednesday, May 2, YMF held another one of its Mixers at the Rio City Café in Old Sacramento. The Mixer allowed for the opportunity for our very own YMF members, past and present, to give technical presentations on their areas of expertise. The presenters for the evening were James Pangburn, David Rizzardo, and Nathan Pingel.
James Pangburn is the YMF Co-Treasurer and a Senior Design Engineer at Mark Thomas & Company. James gave an intriguing presentation on two projects he is currently working on in the City of Roseville: the Historic District and Riverside Avenue. The Historic District Project consists of reconstruction of roadway, pedestrian, and utility facilities in a three-block area in the downtown Historic District of Roseville, which was originally constructed in the late 1800s. The other project James presented on was the Riverside Avenue Project. He talked in detail about the planning and design process that went into the project in order to provide safer pedestrian facilities and infrastructure to attract redevelopment to the area, and provide an attractive gateway to Downtown Roseville.
The second presenters of the night were David Rizzardo, former YMF President, and Nathan Pingel, current YMF Executive Director. David is a Hydrologic Engineer and Chief Snow Surveyor at the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), Hydrology Branch and Nathan is a Hydrologic Engineer at David Ford Consulting in Sacramento. David elaborated on some of the duties and challenges that DWR’s Division of Flood management face with the ever-changing climate and growing population. Nathan followed by speaking about the Natomas Basin and how computer programs are critical in modeling creeks and rivers to determine areas at flood risk and preventative measures flood management agencies can implement. It was an absolute pleasure to have both of them share their experiences with YMF.
