Please join us at Lucca for appetizers, a technical presentation, and scholarship awards at our May Mixer!
All members and non-members are welcome! This will be a great opportunity to meet other young civil engineers in the Sacramento community and to learn about the different institutes of the ASCE Sacramento Section. RSVP is not required.
This month's presentation will be provided by Bill Shunk, P.E. who is a Senior Design Engineer at Mark Thomas and Company with over 8 years of experience. He specializes in transportation related projects with an emphasis on streetscape improvements.
The R Street Improvement Project between 10th and 13th Street is the first of four planned streetscape improvement projects in Sacramento along the R Street Corridor from 9th to 18th Street. This particular project is notable for the historic alignment of the Sacramento Valley Railroad that runs along the middle of R Street, and the industrial buildings and loading docks that were constructed adjacent to the tracks to utilize railroad transit. Designing a pedestrian friendly street while simultaneously preserving the historic railroad tracks and aesthetic features of the corridor has resulted in a number of engineering challenges that have required some unique design solutions.
